Etna Trekking: Conquer the Summit Craters
Description
Meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the Euro Etna tourism hub (1,900 meters above sea level).
After a briefing with the volcanological guide, you will take the cable car that will take you to an altitude of 2,500 meters.
From there, you will begin the ascent to explore the crater of the 2002/2003 eruption and find yourself surrounded by an almost lunar landscape.
You will continue towards the base of the Barbagallo craters, located at about 2,800 meters*, a strategic point to enjoy the breathtaking panorama, being able to glimpse Taormina and Siracusa, as well as having a privileged view of the Summit Craters, from which you can see the incessant emission of gas and water vapor.
You will proceed towards the very recent lava flows (the last one dating back to August 14, 2023) until reaching approximately 2,910 meters*. Once at the "Torre del filosofo" area, you will stop for a snack (not included).
Duration uphill: approximately 2 hours
Duration downhill: approximately 1 hour and a half
Difficulty: moderate. Ability to walk on uneven terrain and uphill, partly.
NOT RECOMMENDED for those suffering from vertigo, those leading a predominantly sedentary lifestyle, or children under 7 years old.
FORBIDDEN for anyone suffering from cardiovascular problems (or serious illnesses) and those leading a sedentary lifestyle.
*NB: The altitude reached may vary, even without notice, in accordance with the regulations in force at the time of the excursion.
