Syracuse bike tour

This bike tour in Syracuse is designed to discover the city and the island of Ortigia in an active and enjoyable way, thanks to the use of electric bikes in Syracuse, ideal for tackling the route comfortably and effortlessly. A perfect experience for those who want to enjoy a true Syracuse bike tour among history, sea, and culture.

The tour begins at Porta Marina, the meeting point for bike delivery and adjustments. After a short briefing, the bike excursion will start.

The first stop is Piazza Duomo, where you can admire the magnificent Cathedral of Syracuse, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. The route then continues towards the charming Fonte Aretusa before reaching the majestic Maniace Castle overlooking the sea.

Leaving behind the impressive Frederician fortress, we will cycle along the Levante seafront, a panoramic route offering views of the ancient Spanish walls. We will leave the island of Ortigia by crossing the Umbertino Bridge, continuing almost entirely on a bike path until reaching the ancient tuna fishery of Santa Panagia, a historic facility for tuna fishing and processing, active until 1970.

During the tour, a short stop is planned at the Basilica of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro, where visitors may admire Caravaggio’s famous painting The Burial of Saint Lucy.

The return route heads back towards Ortigia, crossing Piazza Archimede to admire the Fountain of Artemis before ending the Syracuse bike tour at the characteristic Ortigia market.

Catania and AciTrezza bike tour

Cycling tour along the major streets of the old town, destroyed and rebuilt nine times in the same place. This unusual feature makes Catania a city with a thousand faces. A casket with treasures dating back to different historical periods, buried and then brought to light...keeper of many secrets yet to be revealed!

We will move out from the old town along coastal roads, until we arrive at Aci Castello. The name comes from the building symbol of the village, a castle built on a lava basalt rock, originated from an underwater eruption that occurred about 500,000 years ago. The castle, the object of many legends, is now used as a Civic Museum.

We will then reach AciTrezza, a fishing village that is the background of the Isola Lachea and the Faraglioni dei Ciclopi. These lava rocks were born from the same underwater eruption from which the cliff of Aci Castello originated. Greek mythology tells that the Faraglioni were the rocks thrown by Polyphemus (the Cyclop) against Ulysse (the opera's hero) after being blinded, in the masterpiece "Odyssey". In recent times, were the setting for Verga’s novel "I Malavoglia".
After this plunge into history, we will make a stop for a swim or refresh ourselves with a granita (a local lighter alternative to the icecream).
