Experience an intense adventure on the volcano with this high-altitude Etna crater tour, designed for those who want to explore the upper slopes of Mount Etna in total safety. This guided trek is led by certified volcanological guides and follows an authorized hiking route, allowing you to reach approximately Mount Etna summit 3000 m under expert supervision.
After a short briefing with your volcanological guide, you will take the cable car up to 2,500 meters, the starting point of your Etna crater walking tour.
From here, the hike begins toward the crater formed during the 2002/2003 eruption, crossing a striking lunar-like landscape characterized by volcanic sand and solidified lava flows. This section of the Etna crater tour offers a fascinating insight into the volcano’s recent geological history.
You will then continue toward the base of the Barbagallo Craters (around 2,800 meters), a privileged panoramic viewpoint from which you can admire Taormina, Siracusa, and the summit craters, often marked by visible gas and steam emissions.
The route proceeds toward more recent lava flows until reaching approximately 3,000 meters near the famous Torre del Filosofo area, close to the Mount Etna summit, where a short break is scheduled.

DIFFICULTY: medium. Good ability to walk on uneven terrain and moderate uphill sections is required.
NOT RECOMMENDED for people suffering from vertigo, those leading a sedentary lifestyle, or children under 8 years old.
FORBIDDEN for anyone with cardiovascular conditions (or other serious medical conditions).

Etna Trekking up to 3000 meters
After a brief briefing with the volcanic guide, you will take the cable car up to 2,500 m.
From here, your ascent begins as you explore the crater of the 2002/2003 eruption, immersed in an almost lunar and strikingly dramatic landscape.
You will continue toward the base of the Barbagallo Craters (around 2,800 m), an exceptional viewpoint from which you can see Taormina, Syracuse, and the Summit Craters, often marked by continuous emissions of gas and steam.
The trek continues toward the most recent lava flows, reaching about 3,000 m at the famous “Torre del Filosofo,” where a stop for a snack is planned.
Etna Top - trekking to the summit craters
By choosing this option, you will take the cable car, followed by an off-road minibus that will take you up to 2,900 m (9,514 ft) above sea level. From here, accompanied by a certified alpine/volcanology guide, you will continue on foot to the highest allowed altitudes (depending on volcanic activity). At this height, you will have the opportunity to walk up to the spectacular summit of Etna, admiring the active craters up close in all their majestic beauty: Bocca Nuova, Voragine, Southeast Crater, and Northeast Crater.
