01. Description
Experience an intense adventure on the volcano with an Etna trekking at 3,000 metres*, with a convenient transfer from Catania city centre. This Etna excursion with a volcanological guide takes place along an authorised Etna trekking route, allowing you to reach an altitude of 3,000 metres in complete safety.
Pick-up at 7:30 AM from Catania city centre**
Meeting with the guide on Etna at 1,900 m a.s.l.
After a short briefing with the volcanological guide, you will take the cable car up to 2,500 metres above sea level, the starting point of the hiking excursion.
From here, the 3,000 m Etna trekking adventure begins, discovering the 2002/2003 eruption crater, crossing an evocative almost lunar landscape characterised by volcanic sand and lava flows.
You will continue towards the base of the Barbagallo Craters (approximately 2,800 metres), a privileged panoramic viewpoint from which you can admire Taormina, Syracuse and the Summit Craters, often accompanied by emissions of gas and water vapour.
The route continues towards the most recent lava flows, reaching an altitude of approximately 3,000 metres, in the area of the famous Torre del Filosofo, where a break for a snack is planned.
Return to 2,500 m to take the cable car back down to the station base

DIFFICULTY: medium. Ability to walk on uneven terrain and, at times, uphill.
NOT RECOMMENDED for people who suffer from vertigo, those who lead a predominantly sedentary lifestyle and children under 8 years of age.
FORBIDDEN for anyone suffering from cardiovascular problems (or other serious medical conditions).

Etna Trekking up to 3000 meters

From here, your ascent begins as you explore the crater of the 2002/2003 eruption, immersed in an almost lunar and strikingly dramatic landscape.
You will continue toward the base of the Barbagallo Craters (around 2,800 m), an exceptional viewpoint from which you can see Taormina, Syracuse, and the Summit Craters, often marked by continuous emissions of gas and steam.
The trek continues toward the most recent lava flows, reaching about 3,000 m at the famous “Torre del Filosofo,” where a stop for a snack is planned.
Etna Top - trekking to the summit craters
By choosing this option, you will take the cable car, followed by an off-road minibus that will take you up to 2,900 m (9,514 ft) above sea level. From here, accompanied by a certified alpine/volcanology guide, you will continue on foot to the highest allowed altitudes (depending on volcanic activity). At this height, you will have the opportunity to walk up to the spectacular summit of Etna, admiring the active craters up close in all their majestic beauty: Bocca Nuova, Voragine, Southeast Crater, and Northeast Crater.
From Catania: Etna Top - trekking to the summit craters
By choosing this option, you will depart from Catania city centre.
Once you arrive on Mount Etna, you will meet your guide and take the cable car, followed by an off-road minibus that will take you up to 2,900 m above sea level.
From there, accompanied by an authorized mountain/vulcanological guide, you will continue on foot to the highest altitudes permitted to the top, depending on volcanic activity. At this altitude, you will have the opportunity to walk towards the spectacular summit of Mount Etna, admiring the active craters up close in all their impressive beauty: Bocca Nuova, Voragine, South-East Crater and North-East Crater.
