01. Description
The excursion to Pantalica departs from Syracuse, with a meeting point at Piazza Pantheon – Syracuse, and takes you to discover one of Sicily’s most extraordinary archaeological and natural sites: Pantalica.
After leaving the meeting point, we will set off towards Pantalica, a rock-cut site located between Sortino and Ferla, at the confluence of the Calcinara Valley and the Anapo Valley, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, nature and archaeology blend into a spectacular landscape of deep gorges, Mediterranean woodland and crystal-clear streams, making the area a true sanctuary of biodiversity.
Upon arrival, an expert guide will accompany you to discover the famous Necropolis of Pantalica, dating back to the Bronze Age, with thousands of rock-cut tombs that tell the story of the ancient Sicel civilizations. Along the route, you will also have the opportunity to explore Pantalica and its Byzantine rock-cut dwellings, set within a fascinating and evocative landscape.
